Great Fun at a Local Race
The Fernie Nordic Society held its 10th Annual Community Fun Races at the Nordic Centre on Saturday February 24. Fun, costumes, baked goods and keen participants of all ages were all part of the action! Forty-five skiers hit the trails and many more spectators and volunteers cheered them on.
Volunteers had set up a playground area near the warming hut. It offered fun challenges to the younger skiers. Older skiers, teens and adults, chose either the 3 km or 7.5 km course to ski or race with their friends. The staging area was busy with quite a crowd of skiers, spectators and volunteers enjoying some hot chocolate, crepes and other goodies. Cookie medals and prizes were awarded to the participants. Big smiles all around.
Big thanks to everyone involved!

Volunteer Seasonal Opportunities
Welcome! You will find on this page several rewarding opportunities to lend the club a hand. Or would you prefer to choose a single or short-term task ?
Yes, I want to volunteer!Volunteer Coach
Volunteer coaches are needed for the popular children’s SDP ski lessons on Saturday mornings, Thursday and Tuesday afternoons. Standardized and free training sessions are provided early in the season for new coaches. Volunteers are expected to be available for most of the planned ten 60-minutes lessons during the season. The head coach oversees the scheduling and the training of coaches. We plan to have one coach for every five kids at the lessons. So the more coaches are available, the more kids may be enrolled in the program.
Trail Ambassador
The role of the Trail Ambassadors is to support and enhance the experience of the members and guests who visit the Elk Valley Nordic Centre. Responsibilities include opening and readying the hut, greeting guests at the hut or on the trails, providing them with the information they need to have a safe and enjoyable ski experience, and closing up at the end of the day. The Ambassadors are in the hut or on the trails Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as during Christmas and Spring Breaks and there are two shifts available each day from 10 AM – 1:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. It is up to you to decide how much time you would like to commit. We would be really happy to have you join the team!
